Golden Bay Carols 2018 – Lyrics

Welcome to the Golden Bay Carols for 2018

It’s on again! The Comet Bay Carols are back again this year on the Golden Bay foreshore. All are welcome!

From 6pm to 7pm there’ll be food vans and games for the kids to play. Bring a picnic, or grab something from one of the food providers on the evening. Then, at 7pm, we’ll start the carol singing.

It’s great to have you with us this evening as we celebrate Christmas. On this page, you’ll find the lyrics to all the songs that we’ll be singing tonight.

As your local churches, we’re excited to be presenting the Golden Bay Carols this year. We are convinced that Jesus is more than just another wise man. We believe, having weighed the evidence, that Jesus actually is God with us.

God with us. That’s what one of His titles, Emmanuel, means. Jesus was born like us so that he could rescue us from death and sin, and to Himself. God loves the world so much that he gave his only Son, Jesus, for us. Christmas is about God coming to be with us. We believe that Jesus was executed, but that he conquered death. Because of Jesus, we can be with God – who is called in the Bible a fountain of delights – forever. That’s something to get excited about! Even the angels couldn’t help but burst into song when they announced His arrival all those years ago!

If you’d like to find out more about Jesus, we’d love to speak with you at the church stall. We’d also like to extend an invitation to everyone to visit any of our church services over Christmas.

We hope and pray that you have a wonderful evening, and invite you to join us at one of our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services. God has given us reason to rejoice in Jesus – may you encounter his kindness tonight!

Come on, ring those bells

Come on, ring those bells! Light the Christmas tree!
Jesus is the King, born for you and me.
Come on, ring those bells! Everybody say:
“Jesus we remember this your birthday”

Everybody likes to take a holiday
Everybody likes to take a rest
Spending time together with the family
Sharing lots of love and happiness

Come on, ring those bells…

Celebrations come because of something good
Celebrations we love to recall
Mary had a baby boy in Bethlehem
A joyful celebration for us all

Come on, ring those bells…

Come on, ring those bells…

O come, all ye faithful

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him born the King of angels:

O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him.
O come let us adore Hi
m: Christ the Lord.

Sing choirs of angels, sing in exultation,
sing, all ye citizens of heaven above: Glory to God in the highest:

O come let us adore Him…

Yes Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning,
Jesus to Thee be all glory given.
Word of the Father now in flesh appearing:

O come let us adore Him…

Once in royal David’s city

Once, in royal David’s city, stood a lowly cattle shed
where a mother laid her baby in a manger for His bed.
Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ, her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven who is God and Lord of all.
And His shelter was a stable, and His cradle was a stall:
With the poor and meek and lowly lived on earth our Saviour holy.

And our eyes at last shall see Him through His own redeeming love.
For that child, so dear and gentle, is our Lord in heaven above.
And He leads His children on to the place where He is gone.

We three kings of orient are

We three kings of Orient are. Bearing gifts we traverse afar –
field and fountain moor and mountain – following yonder star.

O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to your perfect light

Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain, Gold I bring to crown Him again.
King forever, ceasing never over us all to reign.

O star of wonder…

Men: Frankincense to offer have I; incense owns a Deity nigh:
Prayer and praising all men raising, worship Him, God most high.

O star of wonder…

Ladies: Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom: sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
sealed in the stone-cold tomb

O star of wonder…

Glorious now, behold Him arise:
King, and God, and sacrifice!
“Alleluia, alleluia!” sounds through the earth and skies.

O star of wonder…

Calypso Carol

See Him lying on a bed of straw;
A draughty stable with an open door
Mary cradling the Babe she bore;
The Prince of Glory is His name.

O now carry me to Bethlehem to see the Lord appear to men.
Just as poor as was the stable then, the Prince of Glory when He came.

Star of silver sweep across the skies
See where Jesus in the manger lies.
Shepherds swiftly from your stupor rise
To see the Saviour of the world.

O now carry me…

Angels, sing again the song you sang,
Bring God’s glory to the heart of man.
Sing that Bethlehem’s little Baby can
Be salvation to the soul.

O now carry me…

Mine are riches—from your poverty.
From your innocence, eternity.
Mine forgiveness by your death for me,
Child of sorrow for my joy.

O now carry me…

Little Donkey

Little donkey, little donkey on a dusty road
Got to keep on plodding onward with your precious load.
Been a long time little donkey through the winter’s night.
Don’t give up now, little donkey, Bethlehem’s in sight.

Ring out those bells tonight: Bethlehem, Bethlehem.
Follow that star tonight: Bethlehem, Bethlehem.
Little donkey, little donkey, had a heavy day.
Little donkey, carry Mary safely on her way.

Little donkey, little donkey, journey’s end is near.
There are wise men waiting for a sign to bring them here.
Do not falter, little donkey, there’s a star ahead.
It will guide you, little donkey to a cattle shed.

Ring out those bells tonight…

The first Noel

The first Noel the angels did say
was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
on a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel! Born is the King of Israel!

Men: They looked up and saw a star
shining in the east, beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
and so it continued both day and night.

Noel…

Ladies: This star drew nigh to the north-west;
over Bethlehem it took its rest,
And there it did both stop and stay
right over the place where Jesus lay.

Noel…

Then let us all with one accord
sing praises to our heavenly Lord,
That has made heaven and earth of nought,
and with His blood mankind has bought.

Noel…

Hark! the herald angels sing

Hark! the herald angels sing:
‘Glory to the new-born King! Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!’
Joyful, all ye nations rise; join the triumph of the skies,
With angelic host proclaim: ‘Christ is born in Bethlehem!’
Hark! the herald angels sing: ‘Glory to the new-born King!’

Christ by highest heaven adored; Christ the everlasting Lord.
Late in time behold Him come: offspring of a virgin’s womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail incarnate Deity.
Pleased as man with man to dwell: Jesus our Emanuel.
Hark the herald angels sing: ‘Glory to the new-born King!’

Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Son of righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
risen with healing in His wings.
Mild, He lays His glory by.
Born that men no more need die,
born to raise the sons of earth,
born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing: ‘Glory to the new-born King.’

Mary’s boy child

Long time ago in Bethlehem, so the Holy Bible say,
Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day.

Hark now hear the angels sing, a new King born today!
And man may live forever more because of Christmas Day.

While shepherds watched their flocks by night
they saw a bright new shining star,
and heard a choir from heaven sing, the music came from a far.

Hark now hear…

Now Joseph and his wife Mary came to Bethlehem that night.
They found no place to bear her child; not a single room was in sight.
By and by they found a little nook in a stable all forlorn.
And in a manger, cold and dark, Mary’s little child was born.

Hark now hear…

Trumpets sound and angels sing! Listen to what they say:
that man may live forever more because of Christmas Day!

Silent night

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm all is bright round yon virgin mother and Child;
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace. Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight: Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing alleluia:
Christ the Saviour is born! Christ the Saviour is born!

Silent night, holy night!
Son of God, love’s pure light, radiant, beams from Your holy face
with the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Your birth, Jesus, Lord, at Your birth.

O Holy Night

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices,
O night divine, O night when Christ was born,
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
with glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
in all our trials born to be our Friend.

He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger.
Behold your King, before him lowly bend.
Behold your King, before Him lowly bend.

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother,
and in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord: O praise His name forever!
His power and glory evermore proclaim!
His power and glory evermore proclaim!

Miracle Child

Miracle Child born to a scared virgin girl,
she trusted that God had a plan: the babe in her hands.
Vulnerable child born at the back of the inn,
hardly the place for a king, yet now angels sing

Glory to God! Glory to God in the highest!
Glory to God!
Glory to God in the highest!

Heavenly son, prophets predicted His birth,
said He would shine light in the dark: the bright morning star.
Wonderful son, bringing the captives release,
meeting the worlds deepest need: our prince of peace.

Glory to God…

This is Jesus, coming to save us;
join the angels singing His praises
This is Jesus, coming to save us;
join the angels singing His praises

Glory to God…

Isaiah 9:6

A child has been born for us. We have been given a son who will be our ruler. His names will be Wonderful Advisor and Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace.

Merry merry Christmas

Merry merry Christmas!
Come and find forgiveness: Jesus Christ the King is born

More than Christmas trees, more than families,
more than presents, we need Jesus.
More than decorations, more than celebrations,
hope for all the nations, we need Jesus.

Merry merry Christmas…

More than Christmas lights, more than carol nights,
more than good times, we need Jesus.
Came to save the lost, His life is what it cost,
every one of us, we need Jesus.

Merry merry Christmas…

Joy to the World

Joy to the world! the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King,
Let every heart prepare Him room,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven, and heaven and nature sing!

Joy to the earth! the Saviour reigns! Let men their songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy!

He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness and wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love, and wonders, wonders of His love.

Feliz Navidad

Feliz Navidad! Feliz Navidad! Feliz Navidad! Prospero año y Felicidad!

We wanna wish you a merry Christmas!
We wanna wish you a merry Christmas!
We wanna wish you a merry Christmas from the bottom of our hearts!

As it happened: Luke 2:8-15

That night in the fields near Bethlehem some shepherds were guarding their sheep. All at once an angel came down to them from the Lord, and the brightness of the Lord’s glory flashed around them. The shepherds were frightened. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid! I have good news for you, which will make everyone happy. This very day in King David’s hometown a Saviour [The Rescuer!] was born for you. He is Christ [The Chosen One!] the Lord. You will know who He is, because you will find him dressed in baby clothes and lying on a bed of hay.”

Suddenly many other angels came down from heaven and joined in praising God. They said: “Praise God in heaven! Peace on earth to everyone who pleases God.”

After the angels had left and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about.”
